Ever since I was little, but more so when she had grandchildren, my mom has loved to whip up a good dish in the kitchen. Perhaps, she had more time to cultivate this love for recipes once my sister and I were grown and out of the house. I have never really enjoyed cooking or baking but have always desired to make good food for my family as needed. I often find myself looking for those quick, no-fuss type of recipes that get the job done and are convenient for a busy mom of 3. My mom on the other hand, loves to research and try new things, learn fresh ways to combine ingredients, and she even grows many of her own veggies. She has a passion for it and makes so many incredible dishes.
A few months ago I came to the realization that my middle child, and oldest daughter, Lily Kate had a love for all things in the kitchen. She soaks up the entire process of mixing, creating, and especially the reward of a finished product that other people enjoy. I welcome her help in the kitchen around dinner time, but always feel like there is so much I don’t know and so much I don’t really have a passion for when it comes to food. It’s moments like this, as a mom, you realize it’s time to call in some reinforcement!
My kiddos call my mom, “Heart.” It was a nickname my oldest son, Luke began calling her when he was really little and it ended up sticking. Once I realized that Heart and Lily Kate shared the same passion, I called my mom up and asked if she’d be interested in joining me on the blog once a month. She was thrilled at the opportunity to spend time with her “grands,” teach me a few tips, and get to share her love of recipe making with all of you! She will be sharing a few of her famous family recipes and coming to our house to teach my kids and I some tips. The best part? Getting to document some really sweet moments, and lets be real here, a delicious snack at the end winds up being a pretty great perk too!
I love this photo my sister, Jessica took of my mom and I. She captured a typical silly moment between the two of us that makes me smile to myself when I see it. As I began Joyfully Rooted a few years ago, I was sharing mostly interior decor. Lately, I have felt led to share more of what I believe makes a home, marriage, and family deeply rooted in Christ. Like all of us, I am learning and growing as I go. Though blogging has had its fair share of challenges for me, I am loving it more every day. I don’t have everything figured out but sharing more of my home and family and what God is doing in our lives has become a drive that lights my soul on fire. I am learning to embrace growth, and that everything does not have to be perfect right off the starting line.
I hope y’all are as excited as I am about this new journey with my Mama. My prayer is that Joyfully Rooted Recipes: A Kitchen with Heart, touches your life and inspires your home as much as it has sparked something recent in me to reach deep down into my roots, share it with my children, and gain wisdom from the amazing family God put in my life. My mom will be guest hosting the recipe section of my blog once a month beginning next week. We can’t wait to share an amazing, simple homemade bread recipe, “Hearts Artisan Bread” as her first post. I’d love it if you showed her some love by welcoming her in the comments below!
